For us, animal welfare is not an appendage, but an integral part of our corporate philosophy. We want every animal that comes into contact with Handlbauer to be treated with respect - during husbandry, transport and slaughter.
Animal welfare begins with responsibility - and we live this in every step of our work. Our principles ensure that animals are treated with the utmost care from the barn to processing.
We cooperate with over 20,000 farms, mainly in Upper and Lower Austria. We emphasise long-term cooperation and support our partners with advice, training and monitoring with regard to animal-friendly husbandry. Many of our farms voluntarily take part in animal welfare and animal health programmes.
Short distances are an important measure for animal welfare. As our abattoirs are located in regions with high densities of pig and cattle farming, we can keep transport distances as short as possible. This reduces stress for the animals and signals responsibility throughout the entire process. We value our long-standing partnerships with our suppliers
Appropriate handling is also crucial in the last phase of an animal's life. We use modern slaughter methods and strict monitoring standards to avoid pain and unnecessary distress.
Our production processes comply with recognised quality and animal welfare standards. In this way, we ensure that the requirements of legal regulations and additional programmes are met.
Every batch of meat is traceable - from the farm of origin to transport to the end product. This allows us to assess where improvements need to be made in the process.
We regularly evaluate our processes, seek dialogue with experts and continuously adapt our measures. The goal: constantly rising standards and noticeably better animal welfare.
